Unregistered NDIS providers — what that means for you

KindSure Support is not registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. It is honest to say so plainly, because for some participants it matters and for others it does not.

If your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, you can use any provider you choose, registered or not, so long as the support is a reasonable and necessary use of your funding. If your plan is NDIA-managed, you generally need a registered provider to invoice the NDIA directly, so an unregistered service is not usually an option.

Sort out the funding route before the first appointment, not after.

What to ask before choosing a support worker service

Ask which support workers you would see and what happens if your regular worker is away. Continuity matters in day-to-day support and it depends on the individual worker more than on the size of the service.

Ask how travel time is charged and whether your suburb is inside their usual service area. KindSure’s service area is Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs, and they publish a 30 km service radius from Wheelers Hill.

Ask about insurance, worker screening and NDIS Worker Screening Check clearances. These are the safeguards that a registered provider has audited annually and that an unregistered provider is responsible for itself.
