What to ask before choosing a youth-focused NDIS provider

For youth mentoring and capacity-building work with young people, ask who the specific mentor would be and how continuity is handled during school holidays or staff turnover. The mentor-participant relationship matters as much as the organisation.

For out-of-home care support, ask how the provider coordinates with Department of Communities and Justice caseworkers and foster carers, and how handovers happen between schools, placements and families.

For plan management of funding, confirm which route applies to you — self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed — and sort out invoicing before the first appointment, not after.

NDIS supports in South Western Sydney

The South Western Sydney NDIS service district covers Liverpool and surrounding suburbs. Supporting Communities Australia’s service area extends across Western Sydney, South West Sydney and the Illawarra, so a participant in those regions may be able to access its youth-focused mentoring and capacity-building supports.

Comparing a few providers in your area is worth the time, especially for ongoing mentoring where the match between participant and mentor is a large part of what makes the support work.
