Understanding sda under the NDIS

SDA eligibility is one of the most evidence-intensive applications in the NDIS. The NDIA's published criteria require demonstration of "extreme functional impairment" or "very high support needs" — terms that are operationalised through specific assessment thresholds. Around 6% of NDIS participants currently receive SDA funding; applications without strong allied-health evidence rarely succeed.

A successful SDA application typically includes recent (within 12 months) reports from an occupational therapist (functional capacity assessment, current home suitability assessment, recommended SDA design category with rationale), a physiotherapist (mobility and equipment requirements), and any specialist physician relevant to your condition.
